When my son was three years old, we decided to no-school him. At that time, I searched online to find families in India who were already following this path. I wanted to know how they lived, how they approached learning, and what their daily life looked like.

That’s when I came across Durgesh Nandini online. Thankfully, she had just announced the first Alternative Thinkers Conference. Something about it deeply attracted me, and without overthinking, I decided to attend the offline conference in Coimbatore in October 2019.

It turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life.

The energy and positivity I experienced there stayed with me for weeks. More importantly, the conference completely changed the way I looked at life not just unschooling, but life as a whole.

Every facilitator brought a fresh perspective on parenting, learning, and personal growth. Listening to Durgesh and Lakshna was especially inspiring. The way they shared their thoughts made me question many of my old beliefs and helped me see parenting in a completely new way.

One of the most valuable moments was the informal conversation I had with Durgesh and Lakshna after the sessions. They patiently answered everyone’s questions and openly shared how and why they chose this way of living. Their simplicity and down-to-earth nature made a lasting impression on me.

My biggest takeaway was this: Unschool your children without fear. When we start working on ourselves, our environment begins to change, and we naturally become better parents. Parenting is more about our own growth than trying to change our children.

I also learned so much from the other facilitators. Sessions by Swati Jagadish on behavior psychology, Haripriya on gentle parenting, and many others gave me valuable insights into parenting, human behavior, and self-awareness.

After the conference, I connected with many like-minded people. Those relationships and learnings helped me understand myself better and showed me where I needed to grow.

Even today, I cherish the memories of the Alternative Thinkers Conference held in Coimbatore in October 2019. It was the first event of its kind that I had ever attended, and it became the starting point of my journey into inner work, conscious parenting, and living with a new perspective.

I will always be grateful to Durgesh, Lakshna, and everyone who made this conference possible. Thank you for creating an experience that truly changed my life
